IF SHE DOESN'T HAVE BOOKS...

My Writer's Almanac today mentioned the birthday of Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and it immediately reminded me of reading "Love in the Time of Cholera" - many years ago, but it still stung a memory of what a powerful book it is.

I ordered it immediately online to add to the library.

A library - my library - should consist of books you love, books you adore, books you lend lovingly to others, books that you can pick up and read over and over.

I recently re-read "The Great Gatsby," my all time favorite novel, for the 18,564th time. I wrote my favorite lines in my journal to read and re-read...

"A phrase began to beat in my ears with a sort of heady excitement: 'There are only the pursued, the pursuing, the busy, and the tired.'"

and - swoon - all time:

"He knew that when he kissed this girl, and forever wed his unutterable visions to her perishable breath, his mind would never romp again like the mind of God. So he waited, listening for a moment longer to the tuning-fork that had been struck upon a star. Then he kissed her. At his lips' touch she blossomed for him like a flower and the incarnation was complete."

I used to think "wow, does that even HAPPEN anymore?" Does someone kiss for the first time and know, to their core, that they would never be the same after that one kiss. Forever changed because of one moment of impact?

And now, I believe - because it does exist. It does exist!
