LAYLESS

Something is amiss.

My ladies aren't laying.

I had to buy EGGS AT CVS this weekend, for crying out loud.

I noticed that we were getting a few "fairy" eggs over the past month...and we had one major battle royale with pests in the yard that ended with me and a yard sprayer and a discussion with the owner of Ranch and Home that used words like "NUKE" and "DESTROY."

As a side note, I treated all the chickens but very conservatively applied the spray to Gladys. We can't take risks with Gladys.

Dr. Thomas once told me that if they don't feel safe in the coop, sometimes they will lay eggs somewhere else in the yard; under shrubs, tucked away. I scoured the yard yesterday, to no avail.

So on to Google I go, researching "WHY WONT MY CHICKENS LAY EGGS?"

The "fairy" eggs:

..........................................................

Last night I boiled the rest of the CVS eggs and one lone egg from my ladies.

The difference was SHOCKING.

The egg yolk from my ladies was  bright orange, the color of a sunset. The CVS egg was pale, barely yellow. Sad.

Even if my ladies never lay another egg again, I sure am glad they get to live this life filled with free range, kids, fresh grass and sunshine. And the occasional pretzel / mac and cheese / tortilla / muffin snack.
